Undergraduate Physics Experiments


Our Undergraduate Program is for students wishing to major in Physics and Astronomy, Medical and Health Physics, or who would like to minor in Physics. Although there is not a general rule in our Department, the policy in most groups is that each credit hour is equivalent to 3-4 hours of work in the laboratory per week, which includes time to perform experiments, analyze data, and interpret results. Our physics courses combine a fundamental understanding of the laws of physics that govern the behaviour of systems of all sizes, alongside an understanding of their applications in modern industry. We enumerate a few of these methods ranging from laboratory based experiments such as cavities and interferometers to astrophysical systems such as white dwarfs and neutron stars. We are a small department (10 staff members, more than 35 faculty, ≈ 20 postdocs, more than 80 graduate students, and many more undergraduates) so we do not do everything.
